​   1. Gather your materials

  • Tablet M

  • Turtle Survey/Ethogram Data Sheets

  • A pair of binoculars

  • Thermometer

  • Turtle ID guide

  • Sensor Push

 

   2. The person that is in charge of the data sheets will be both recording what the lookout spots and and says about behavior

   3. Find a spot to observe turtles, that has logs and are close to the water.  

   4. The survey will take about 5 minutes, you will want to spend the first 3 minutes observing the turtles and the last two recording the ethograms.  While completing this process compare the temperature and the amount of turtles you see.

  • When doing the ethogram you are marking the behavior of each individual turtle as one tally, the amount of markings you have on the ethogram should be the exact same amount you have in the survey

 

    5. Distribute materials within group (see step one).

    6. One of the group member will be assigned the tablet, they will need to complete the following:

  • Epicollect (Turtle Survey)

  • Air and Water Temp (Thermometer, Sensor Push)

  • Set the time for 5 minutes

 

   7.The next group member will be observing the turtles.  They will need to complete the following:

  • Look at the turtles with the binoculars

  • Tell the recorder the type and the amount of turtles

  • Tell the recorder what type of behavior the turtles are portraying  

    8. Finish your data sheet and collect your materials.

    9. After completing all the following steps start Geo Tracker.

  10.You will be repeating steps 1-9 at each spot that you go to around the pond
